Wilmar Gálvez Alfonso, a young man from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, has dreamed of reaching for the stars since she was a child. This dream led him to study Aerospace Engineering at the prestigious Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he began his first year in 2024, thanks to the support of the Kinesis Foundation. His love of space was inspired by his mother, a science teacher, who nurtured his curiosity to learn all about the universe.

Wilmar, with a perfect 4.0 GPA at Benito Cerezo Vazquez High School, has shown tireless dedication toward becoming an astronaut. During his time in college, he plans to become involved in research on space systems, including the design of satellites and experimental stations. In addition, he has ambitions to master the Russian language and specialize in Space Operations, two key tools in his future career.

Despite his accomplishments, Wilmar has faced significant challenges, such as a lack of initial guidance in applying to universities in the United States. However, with the help of mentors from the Latinas in STEM program, she overcame these obstacles and secured her place at Embry-Riddle. Now, as part of the Kinesis scholarship program, Wilmar has found valuable support that has allowed him to fully focus on his education.

Wilmar manages academic and extracurricular stress by meticulously organizing his assignments and is committed to developing his discipline to meet the challenges ahead. His goals include graduating with honors, obtaining his pilot's license, and leading aerospace research projects, all with an eye toward his dream of working for organizations such as NASA, SpaceX, or Blue Origin.

With solid preparation and the backing of the Kinesis Foundation, Wilmar is well on his way to fulfilling his goal of inspiring other young people, especially women, to pursue STEM careers. His story is a testament to how effort and the right support can turn dreams into reality, and how a boy who dreamed of becoming an astronaut is getting closer and closer to the stars.
